Lucienne Day Appreciation

Last spring my cousin was married at the textile museum in D.C. I have always loved textile design, but I had not ever seen a collection in person like the one at the museum that day. The work of Lucienne Day was spread throughout the rooms. Day's was a name that I knew, but I hadn't seen her textiles in person, and there they were–modern, natural, accessible. I fell in love! Day was an artistic and creative force. She recognized the power of mass market, and she used that power to spread good design. Here are just a few of her designs. Below are some links to additional articles about Day and her husband.

Lucienne's textiles are still for sale at the Center for Advanced Textiles in UK.

Unison sale

If you're in the Chicago area next weekend, the home textile design store Unison is having their Spring sale. After spending four years in Finland, this American couple returned to the US to build on the inspiration they found in Scandinavian design. I love their simple, classic designs. You can see more and get directions to the sale here.

Alternate buying options

Hello, my faithful two followers (that includes me, I think)! While we are trying to sort out our troubles with the Etsy store, our bags are still available for purchase. If you go to http://www.habitgoods.com/HABIT/CARRY.html, click on the bag you adore, and when you hit the "Buy Now" button it will take you to http://www.toteandbag.com/7/habit-for-cbs.html.

I highly recommend the large tote for the beach this summer. I plan to use the yellow one, myself.

Mother's Day gift idea (a little late)

Good Morning! Sunday is Mother's Day– do you have something special for your mother or wife? We should have thought to suggest this last week, but alas, it is Friday, and I am just now making this post. But, in case your mother or wife would be thrilled to receive a gift next week (or maybe her birthday is coming up), I highly suggest a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and the Habit tote with the Loop Chain pattern. Like this:

What a pretty gift!

Hope you all have a great Mother's Day, and if a mother happens to see this, maybe you can treat yourself?

Ready, set, go!

Hello out there! Welcome to Habit Style, the main line of communication from Jim and Ana (that's me) of Habit Goods ™, to you.

We are just starting out, so anyone who happens upon this, you can legitimately claim that "you knew about them before..." And I hope you will one day have cause to make that claim. But until then, here is a little bit about us...

Jim, the seasoned blogger from Modern Craft, http://moderncraft.blogspot.com/, and I have worked together for many years. Throughout the years we have had a healthy exchange of ideas, inspirations, and an ever-present obsession with art, design, textiles, and illustration.

After lots and lots of talk, we have decided to dip our toes into the water and actually make something. That very first something happens to be a canvas tote bag. You can find it here, on Etsy:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheBagOutlet

You can also find a little bit more of our style at our website: http://www.habitgoods.com/HABIT/HABIT.html

In any case, we hope that as we dive into the depths of our inspirations and obsessions, you will come along with us, and see how this adventures goes.

We are happy to be here, and we hope that you are, too!
