Plytextiles

I encountered the Etsy store PLYtextiles recently. If this isn't the modern rebirth of my favorite material from childhood crafts, I don't know what is. Also, it turns out the owner is a Chicago resident, so congratulations to we midwesterners!

Catherine Holm shop on Etsy

I just lovelovelove the prints offered by Catherine Holm on Etsy. They are colorful, they appeal to my mid-century leanings, they tap into my appreciation of food and cooking, they even make me laugh! Here are two prints, but she has so much great stuff, check it out!

Park Slope, here we are!

The store A.Cheng, in Park Slope, now stocks our Loop Chain bags. Check out how great they look!

A. Cheng creates some limited edition, one-of-a-kind pieces in additional to stocking hand selected items from many other makers. I love their dresses!

They plan to take additional designs from us later this summer. Check out their store and blog here.

It's up!

The new Poppytalk Handmade market place running from today until July 15th is online! We are thrilled to be a part of it, especially since there are so many great artists in this exhibition. Here are some of my favorites:

I love this lounge chair from Gallant and Jones. They have so many beautiful fabric choices.

Jim and I have spoken at length about our deep desire to make lampshades and hanging lights. Sasha and Elisabeth set a high standard in this category. I love these.

Some of you may (or may not) know that I studied fine art at Carnegie Mellon University. The paintings featured by artist Samantha French take me back to late nights in the attic of the Fine Arts building there. I love these paintings, and I wish I had several of them at home to remind my of summer as we are huddled down during Chicago winters.

An Exciting Week!

We have had lots of fun and exciting moments this week, both little thrills and new opportunities. Firstly, a little thrill.

Our business cards arrived. I LOVE them! The front of the cards are simple and business cardy, but the backs show a slew of different designs:

Secondly, we were accepted into the Poppytalk Handmade summer market "Here Comes the Sun" which begins on Monday and runs through mid-July. YIPPY! Our Loop Chain bags got us into the market, but we are able to add these two new prints as well, and we hope everyone likes them. They are available for purchase on Etsy.

We are so pleased to be a part of the wonderful art and design communities of Etsy and Poppytalk. It is humbling to see so much talent and creativity.

Lucienne Day Appreciation

Last spring my cousin was married at the textile museum in D.C. I have always loved textile design, but I had not ever seen a collection in person like the one at the museum that day. The work of Lucienne Day was spread throughout the rooms. Day's was a name that I knew, but I hadn't seen her textiles in person, and there they were–modern, natural, accessible. I fell in love! Day was an artistic and creative force. She recognized the power of mass market, and she used that power to spread good design. Here are just a few of her designs. Below are some links to additional articles about Day and her husband.

Lucienne's textiles are still for sale at the Center for Advanced Textiles in UK.
